A Wasteland Story - a fallout solo-rpg podcast
A fallout solo-rpg podcast. Combining audio from the table, scripted narration and atmospheric soundscapes, A Wasteland Story follows the travel of a young girl, lost and alone, struggling to survive in the wasteland. SosKaid finds herself inexplicably rescued from the jagged rusty saw of a security robot by a young Brotherhood of Steel initiate. She had taken refuge in a factory building escaping the horrific events that overran her village and (presumably) wiped out her family and everyone she knew. Over the course of the season a plot will unfold involving Super Mutants, the Brotherhood, the New California Republic and a town run by ghouls. SosKaid will get caught up in political intrigue, raider conflicts, an abandoned vault, and the search to find her estranged uncle far to the north....probably. Based on the Fallout series of video games and Modiphius’ Fallout 2D20 tabletop rpg (ttrpg) system, this narrative driven meets actual play podcast brings together the creativity and interpretation of the player, and the randomness and unpredictability of the dice to tell an evolving story set in the fallout universe. Experience how a ttrpg can be played solo and still contain all of the drama, narrative, crits and complications of a game played at the table, all wrapped up in a narrative audio adventure put together by a professional audio engineer and podcaster. Join me PJ and our character SosKaid as we roll tape (and dice) to tell A Wasteland Story.

Our story begins in one of the dilapidated West-Tek Facility buildings somewhere on the west coast of the wasteland.
SosKaid finds herself in fact, not dead, which comes as a bit of a surprise. She isn't so sure however that she can say the same for the young Brotherhood Initiate and the twisted security bot who are awkwardly intertwined not inches from her trembling foot.
She has to get out of here...

Ep2 - The Raider Under The Bridge
Friday Jun 21, 2024
Friday Jun 21, 2024
After very nearly escaping that damn facility building in the last episode, SosKaid finds herself hiding once more, this time from the Brotherhood of Steel.
In doing so she accidentally learns of a far greater threat to the wasteland than even raiders. And to add insult to injury (fair warning for some filthy raider insults in this ep) the lives of an entire nearby village will be forfeit if she can't get there in time to warn them of their impending doom.
Oh and there is a raider under a bridge...obviously.
Whatever will the dice do this time? Find out on episode 2 of A Wasteland Story

Friday Jul 19, 2024
Friday Jul 19, 2024
SosKaid finds herself in charge of the defence of the small settlement NuArk with not enough resources or time to properly reinforce their position.
The incoming Mutant attack is imminent and she must work with the local people to scrape together whatever they can to give them the best chance of avoiding the inside of a squishy Mutant gore-bag.
Here they come... What's that beeping sound?
Join me and roll the dice for episode 3 of A Wasteland Story to continue the lonely journey of our heroine SosKaid as she struggles to find out what happened to her family, what's going on with the FEV, and how the hell is she going to make it all the way to Vancouver when she keeps getting caught up in dangerous and unexpected plots along the way in this narrative meets actual play solo-rpg fallout podcast.

[EDITORS NOTE: If you listened to this on the first day of release you may have noticed there were some mutations in the audio. Thanks so much to those who reached out and warned me of the dangerous infection, the issues have since been obliterated and fixed.]
Hello and welcome back to A Wasteland Story. Episode 4 continues the story of our heroine SosKaid in the aftermath of the attack on NuArk. She's a star, a hero, and praised by the people as their saviour?....surely not.
Also I am proud to announce that I have launched a new show where I interview some of the significant individuals and content creators that helped get me into the hobby.
The first episode is out now with YouTuber Man Alone and you can listen to it now at The Solo RolePlayers Podcast
Do check it out, it was a great chat on why we play, how we play, and creativity in solo roleplayer along with a bunch of other tangents.

Ep5 - The Good Boy
Monday Sep 30, 2024
Monday Sep 30, 2024
Hello and welcome back to A Wasteland Story. The procedurally generated audio drama where we aren't at all afraid to kill off very potentially important characters and relationships at the drop of a dice.
After one such important character was gunned down in the last episode, the heroine of NuArk turned scapegoat, SosKaid finds herself locked up in a tiny cell awaiting a breakout.
Can she trust Youthful Corey to crack her out of there like an accidentally mutated extra rib? Or is there more betrayal on the horizon ?(almost definitely)
And after all is said and done....who's a good boy?

[BONUS] - Fallout 2D20 Character Creation
Thursday Nov 07, 2024
Thursday Nov 07, 2024
Hello Wastelanders,
In light of my new mainline episode not being quite finished, and the fact that I will be playing fallout 2d20 online with friend of the show 'Board Games with Thomas'. I decided to record me creating a new character and show you all a bit about how it works.
The easter egg here is that this character I created will become a key figure in the Wasteland Story...story in the future.
If you are only interested in the gripping story and don't much care how a character is made in fallout, then you can safely skip this one. For everyone else, I hope you enjoy and don't worry, the next ep is on the way... and its a big one!
Cheers,
PJ

Hello and Welcome Back to another episode of A Wasteland Story. In this episode of the show we continue the story of our Heroine SosKaid and her trusty companion DogMeat as they head back out in the wastes to try and find the Brotherhood of Steel, hoping that they will help her upset Wrights plot in NuArk.
Filled with intrigue, dice rolls, twists and/or turns, violence, swearing and a very good boy indeed, this episode has everything you expected and more from one of the countless procedurally driven narrative audio drama set in the fallout universe.

What Is Solo Roleplaying?
Solo Roleplaying is a set of techniques that can be used to play traditional table-top rpg games without the need for someone else (a GM or similar) to run it. The experience is obviously quite different to that of sitting around a table with friends and having adventures. Different...but potentially just as rich in imagination, narrative, gameplay ad creativity. Solo roleplaying has been around in various forms nearly as long as the hobby itself but has seen a significant rise in popularity in the last few years. So much so that major ttrpg developers are beginning to include solo-rules out of the box. If you want to try it for yourself there are a wealth of resources on YouTube and reddit (for example) for you to explore.
